Among the huntsmen are Sara and Eric, who serve as Freya’s closest friends. Sara is a highly trained archer, and Eric is an experienced swordsman. Together with Freya, the Huntsmen undergo rigorous training. A typical huntsman molts several times before reaching adulthood. The old skin often resembles the original spider. The average lifespan of a Huntsman is about two years.
Freya formed the Huntsmen when her infant daughter died. Her desire to rule the North was prompted by her vow to harden her heart against love. While she had a small army at her disposal, she hoped to raise an army of elite warriors. In a way, Freya saw her Huntsmen as a replacement for the child she lost. They were trained to raid villages and capture children to train as warriors.
