Sui-Jen

The creation of fire by the Chinese deity creator Sui-Jen is believed to have occurred approximately 4,000 years ago. Initially, the world was governed by three great rivers, the celestial, terrestrial, and human. These rivers were ruled by the human sovereign, Yung-Ch’eng, and a fire-man, Sui-Jen. Before the arrival of fire, humans lived like wild animals and ate raw food. In later times, fire was brought down from heaven and was used to cook and prepare food.

According to legends, Guanyin is the goddess of compassion and mercy. Although she has numerous forms, her most common image is that of a woman wearing white robes and holding a willow branch. The goddess’s name, Gun-sai-jin, means “woman of mercy.” She is also considered to be a compassionate matriarchal figure.

Sui-Jen is also known as the Three Stars, which represent the top three traditional qualities of a good life. The Three Stars are often depicted in statues, paintings, and other art. Most people in China have a statue of the Three Stars in their homes and work places.
