In ancient China, the deity bunny was a very important part of the culture, but what’s interesting is that a serious epidemic once broke out in Beijing. The Rabbit God appeared in a human form and cured the epidemic, thus bringing about a renewed interest in the Rabbit God. For centuries, people worshipped the rabbit and his human counterpart during the Mid-Autumn Festival. In 2009, the handcraft of making clay figurines of the Rabbit God was added to Beijing’s intangible cultural heritage list.
